Cookies and similar technologies
This website does not set cookies, does not use analytics or advertising tracking, and does not store information in your browser. Fonts are provided by your own device. The only third-party content is the Google map described below. Links to other websites, such as LinkedIn or Google Maps, only take you to those sites if you choose to follow them. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Google map
The bottom of each page has a map of our office supplied by Google. It loads only if you select "Show map". On our contact and regulatory pages, a map also opens if you select the location pin next to our address. When a map loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives information such as your IP address and this website's address, and may set cookies or use similar technologies on your device for its own purposes. Google is responsible for its own use of that information under Google's privacy policy (opens in a new tab). Our address is also shown in writing on every page.
Enquiries
This website does not have an online enquiry form and does not collect or send enquiries. You can contact us by telephone or by email at info@llchambers.com; the "Email us" link on our Contact page opens your own email application. Emails sent to that address can be read only by people who have access to that mailbox.
We use the information you give us by telephone or email to respond to your enquiry and, if you instruct us, to act for you, as described below.
Who we are
Data controller: London Law Chambers Ltd, The Charter Building, Charter Place, Uxbridge, Middlesex, UB8 1JG.
For any question about how we use personal information, or to exercise your rights, email us at info@llchambers.com or write to us at the address above, marked for the attention of the Principal Solicitor. We have not appointed a data protection officer.
Purposes and lawful bases
- Responding to enquiries and deciding whether we can act for you: to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- Providing legal services when you instruct us: performance of our contract with you.
- Meeting our legal and regulatory obligations, such as identity and anti-money-laundering checks, conflict checks, SRA requirements, tax and accounting records: compliance with a legal obligation.
- Running and protecting our practice, including keeping records, managing complaints and dealing with our insurers and professional advisers: our legitimate interests.
- Where your matter involves sensitive information, such as health information in a personal injury claim or information about criminal offences, we use it where this is necessary to give legal advice or to establish, bring or defend legal claims.
Recipients and processors
We share personal information only where this is needed for your matter or required by law. Depending on the matter, recipients can include barristers, experts and other professionals we instruct for you; courts and tribunals; the Home Office, HM Land Registry, HM Revenue & Customs and other public bodies; the other parties to a matter and their lawyers; our insurers, auditors and professional advisers; and our regulator where required. We also use service providers, such as email and IT providers, who process information for us on our instructions.
How long we keep information
Client files are usually kept for at least six years after the matter is closed.
- Enquiries that do not lead to us acting for you: kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Records of identity and anti-money-laundering checks: kept for five years after the end of our business relationship with you, as the Money Laundering Regulations require.
- Some documents are kept longer where there is a good reason, such as original wills, deeds and trust documents, or files where a later claim is possible. We review files before destroying them.
International transfers
If any personal information is stored or accessed outside the UK, for example by one of our service providers, we make sure the safeguards required by UK data protection law are in place.
Your rights
You have rights over your personal information. Where they apply, they include the right to ask for a copy of it, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to have it transferred. To exercise them, contact us as set out under "Who we are" above.
If you are unhappy with how we have used your personal information, you have the right to complain to us, including by email, and we will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the UK data protection regulator, the Information Commission (still known as the ICO). More information is on the ICO website (opens in a new tab).
