Disburse simply means to “pay out (money from a fund)”. In legal context, disbursements are the payments that we make, on your behalf, in connection with your case. Examples of such payments are court fee, payments to an expert or to a barrister who has been briefed to do some legal work on your behalf. Disbursements do not include in our fee that we charge you. Hene when we quote you our legal professional fee to represent you or carry out any legal work for you or on your behalf, we usually state our fee and indicate plus disbursement.
Although, we identify as much of the likely disbursement to accrue as possible so that you can make an informed decision to initiate or continue a legal action and/or instruct us, sometimes it is not possible to anticipate all of the likely disbursements to incur due to nature of the case. In such situation, we try to provide an estimate of such costs but, in any event, always inform you well in advance of the accrual of such disbursement enabling you to make an informed decision.
